Marine Reptile · Isolated Tooth

Mosasaur Tooth

A single, cleanly recurved conical tooth from a mosasaur, complete with its smoothly enamelled crown and a short section of root. The faint longitudinal ridges (carinae) that once helped grip and puncture prey are still visible along its length.

Despite their fearsome, dinosaur-like reputation, mosasaurs weren't dinosaurs at all — they were giant marine lizards, and their closest living relatives are thought to be monitor lizards and snakes. Some species grew beyond 15 metres, making them the apex predators of the Late Cretaceous oceans.

Origin details to follow.
